What is NextCloud?
NextCloud lowers the barrier for communication and lets your team connect any time, anywhere on any device. It is an open source file sharing and collaboration suite specially developed to put you in control of your data.
Because it is open source, you have ultimate control. It is not going to suddenly close up shop and leave you stranded.
It is the hot sauce behind Flying-Higher’s collaboration with clients and partners.
What can NextCloud do for me?
Features
Security is fundamental to the NextCloud philosophy.
The feature set in this open source software is extensive. There are lots of apps already available in the app store (most of which are free). If you have a need that is not available, you can have it made for you – because it is open source.
- File sharing – Limits are set by you, or ultimately your hardware. Excellent for sharing large or small files. Just send the person you are collaborating with an email and they will have access to your file.
- Desktop and mobile apps sync data –
- Groupware – Add calendar, contact, and mail functionality to share with your team. Native integration into iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, Outlook and Thunderbird.
- NextCloud Talk – One of the most secure and useful tools available, Talk allows you to have individual and group video meetings and even webinars with colleagues anywhere and anytime. You can share screens, chat and use all the other groupware and filesharing features.
NextCloud hosting options:
Although you can have a NextCloud instance hosted for you, I highly recommend running it on your own hardware. It’s kind of the point of having the data under your control. That may not be your priority as much as just having the collaboration and team tools, so lets take a look at the options.
Self-hosting
Depending on how many people and how heavily you will use it, a typical small business can get away with running NextCloud on rather low powered or older systems.
Hosting providers
NextCloud can be hosted by most VPS providers. Take a look at their terms of service before you do install because some hosts do not allow file sharing on their servers.
We can install NextCloud on your existing hardware or we can build you a custom machine. More on that shortly.
